Nanobubbles in Functional Water Production

Oxygen-enriched functional water is produced with oxygen nanobubble technology; hydrogen (H₂) functional water is available as an option.
From personal and home oxygen water to bottled water and beverage production, applications are reviewed against flow rate, target concentration and hygiene conditions.

Gas concentration and quality control in functional water

For functional water, it is important not only to reach the target gas concentration but also to control quality up to the point of drinking, filling or storage.

  1. Target dissolved gas concentration

The amount dissolved varies with gas type, water temperature, pressure and flow rate, making it hard to produce a consistent concentration.

  2. Gas loss over time

After production, dissolved gas can escape during opening, transfer, filling and storage, changing the concentration.

  3. Drinking and production hygiene requirements

Wetted parts and cleanability, raw water quality and production hygiene standards must all be met.

Role of nanobubble gas dissolution

  1. Gas dissolution and supply Under set water and gas supply conditions, the system promotes oxygen (optional: hydrogen) dissolution and introduces nanobubbles to produce functional water.
  2. Equipment configured by use Personal low-flow production and industrial continuous or batch production are configured separately, linked to filling and storage tests where needed.

The presence of nanobubbles and dissolved gas concentration are not the same indicator. Concentration is measured at the actual point of use.

What Are Nanobubbles

Expected benefits of nanobubbles in functional water production

Nanobubble gas dissolution can be used to produce functional water at the target concentration at the point of use and to control production quality and conditions. High dissolved oxygen in the treated water was confirmed in in-house tests of the S Series. Quality retention during filling and distribution is validated for each process, and no health effects from drinking are claimed.

Applications by functional water production scale

Personal functional water produced directly at the point of use and industrial beverage production intended for filling and distribution differ in process and validation items. Home/personal use is at the 'early market' stage; industrial/beverage production is at the 'validation' stage.

  • Home & personal

Low-flow production directly at the point of use, such as personal oxygen water

  • Industrial & beverage production

Gas dissolution, filling and storage for bottled water and gas-infused beverages

  • Early market: product and basic performance validated
  • Validation: field and economic validation in progress

Home/personal vs. industrial/beverage production

Both are based on the same gas dissolution technology, but operating methods and evaluation indicators differ by purpose. Industrial applications proceed by confirming gas dissolution performance and process suitability under the customer's production conditions.

Differences between home/personal and industrial/beverage functional water
Category Home & personal Industrial & beverage production
Purpose Oxygen water on demand Development and production of gas-infused bottled water and beverages
Operating mode Low flow, produced at point of use Continuous or batch production
Key conditions Drinking safety, ease of use Production flow, food-contact materials, cleaning, filling and packaging
Evaluation items Dissolved gas concentration right after production Concentration right after production and after filling, changes during distribution

Nanobubble systems for functional water production

The S Series (SQN) is recommended for home/personal low-flow production, and HTV, with an all-stainless-steel internal module, for industrial and beverage production. Oxygen is standard; hydrogen is configured as an optional specification.

Recommended Optional The S Series (SQN) is a low-flow configuration of up to 3 L/min. HTV's stainless steel module alone is not taken as meeting hygiene standards for food contact and beverage production equipment; this is checked for each process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about gases used, differences between personal units and production lines, drinking water applications, concentration changes during storage, and validation of industrial production performance.

Which gases are used for functional water production?

Oxygen (O₂) is standard, and hydrogen (H₂) functional water can also be produced as an optional specification.

The two gases differ in how they dissolve and escape and in operating conditions. Supply equipment and measurement methods are set according to target dissolved gas concentration, raw water quality, water temperature and treatment flow rate. Because hydrogen is flammable, leakage, ventilation and electrical safety conditions are considered as well.

After confirming the gas and production scale, Honour Tech reviews the equipment configuration and preliminary test items.

Can a personal oxygen water device be used on a bottled water or beverage production line?

Industrial beverage production requires validation of production flow, hygiene and filling conditions that differ from those of personal devices.

Confirming oxygen dissolution in a low-flow device does not guarantee the same concentration and productivity in mass production equipment. A separate configuration suited to the line's flow rate, wetted parts and filling method may be needed.

Honour Tech reviews an industrial configuration based on the customer's production conditions and target gas concentration, and tests product quality through to after filling.

Can a nanobubble functional water system be applied to drinking water?

Application to drinking water production can be considered. In that case, the food-contact suitability of the equipment and the hygiene standards of the final product must be confirmed first, along with gas supply performance.

Raw water quality, microbial control, wetted-part materials, leachables, safety of the gas used and related regulations must be reviewed. Equipment with strict hygiene requirements is configured with HTV, but the fact that all internal modules are stainless steel is not in itself taken to mean beverage manufacturing standards are met.

Honour Tech specializes in gas dissolution technology and system design and supply for functional water production, providing solutions centered on objectively measurable technical performance such as dissolved gas concentration, production flow and process stability. The quality and fitness for purpose of the final product are validated against the relevant industry standards.

Does nanobubble functional water stay effective if made in advance and stored?

The dissolved gas concentration and properties of functional water change with storage conditions, so quality must be managed at the actual point of use, not just immediately after production.

Oxygen and hydrogen differ in how they dissolve and are retained in water, and dissolved gas concentration varies with the seal and material of the storage container, water temperature and storage time. Some nanobubbles remaining in the water does not mean the initial dissolved gas concentration or function is maintained.

Honour Tech recommends using it immediately after production; where storage is necessary, storage conditions are set based on quality at the actual point of use.

How is the production performance of industrial functional water verified?

Changes during transfer, filling and storage are evaluated along with target concentration and actual output.

Dissolved gas concentration can be compared only when the measurement location, time, temperature and pressure are recorded together. Production flow, gas consumption, quality variation and cleanability of the equipment are also review items.

Based on the customer's raw water and production conditions, Honour Tech reviews step by step from small-scale testing to production process validation.
